Near the town of Lefkada are stretched the beaches of Gyra and Ai Giannis with the windmills, suitable for kitesurfing, a sport that needs adequate winds and that finds here its own paradise. Before we talk about the beaches, how about a walk in the narrow streets of the historic center and the pedestrian Central Market? It is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum, the phonograph Museum, the Charamoglios Special Library, the Special Law Library of N. Svoronos and the Public Library.
Following one of the two axes of the coastal road, the one that goes south, we will cross the coastal settlements of Lygia, Nikiana, Perigiáli and of course the full of life Nidri, with its busy harbor. Easy is also the access to Desimi cove, southward to Vlichos bay.
Very close to Nydri are located the waterfalls of Dimosari gorge, which are worth discovering. We continue to Mikros Gialos and we should definitely stop for a coffee or ouzo in verdant Sivota, one of the safest harbors in the Ionian Sea.
Next stop, the favorite of wind surfers, is Vassiliki, one of the most famous resorts on the island. To arrive to the exotic beaches of Porto Katsiki and Egremni, we will continue towards St. Peter, Komilio, Dragano and Athani.
