The capital and main port of the island is a beautiful village with a strong presence of green. The last years, it has been showing significant tourism development and has plenty of accommodation, hotels, rooms and apartments.

There are also several restaurants and entertainment shops, and most of them are located in the Venetian piazza.
A walk around the harbor will remain memorable, with the anchored vessels to form a very impressive sight, as well as the beautiful buildings with the strong presence of British and Venetian influences, as Paxos was mainly influenced by them in the past.

For your swimming, one of the most "easy" and better choices is the beach located on Moggonisi Island, to which you can go by boat from the port or by your own vessel. Of course, there are many other beaches within a walking distance from Gaios, as Gianna, Soulalena and the beaches at the opposite islands of Panagia and St. Nicholas.
One of the sights of Gaios is the church of the Holy Apostles with the murals. Inside, there are characteristic quirks of Ionian architecture.
