Important part of the city of Chios, is the Castle. Its construction is on the middle of Byzantine times. From then and for many centuries, consists of the center of trade in the island. During the Genovese period it was an icon of a city of renaissance, during Ottoman period was inhabited by few Turks of the island and even less Jews, but after bonding with Greece and the disaster of Minor Asia became the home of thousand of people that still live there.
During the centuries, the castle of Chios was under attack by Genouates and Venetous, and also Turks.
The castle of Chios still has a special position in the city. Inside the castle there are some trustworthy monuments as the temple of Agios Georgios, Kria Vrisi, Koulas and also conflates architectonic features into it from all the periods of its history.
In the north part of the city is the area of Tambakika. It is about the old industrial zone of Chios, with big industrial bulidings, where leather industry has developed.
