Kochylia are 5 independent fully furnished apartments of different sizes and equipment. The walking distance to the main place of Chora is 5 minutes. Built in accordance with the strict skyrian rules of architecture and decoration, the apartments attract the attention of sophisticated and conscious visitor, who is willing to take a walk in order to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the traditional Chora and the location of the apartments.
With our 40 years of experience as architects and years of experience in designing and development of tourist facilities in Skyros (Lithari, Pithari, Villa Madalena, Patriko and some others that are built now within the scope of European funding) in 1999 we built a little gem called Kochylia in Chora - which is the traditional car-free main settlement of Skyros just opposite of the church Agios Ioannis.
Skyros is an island whose history reaches far back to the mythological times. Theseus, Lykomidis, Axill and Neoptolemos are persons of mythology which are inseparably connected with the history of the island. The two museums, the Folklore Museum and the Archaeological there are facts and monuments of its great past.
The most picturesque point of the island is without doubt the Chora, the main village of the island, with its houses shaped in the form of an amphitheater huddled against a 179m high rock. On the top of the rock is an old castle, where you can enjoy a great view over the vast blue Aegaen Sea. Remarkable is the construction of the castle, as it is only accessible from one side; all the other 3 sides drop steeply down to the sea and offered a natural defense against attacking enemies.
