In a distance of 28 kilometers from the capital of the prefecture, Volos, is one of the most picturesque villages of Pelion, Milies, the seat of the former municipality.
Milies is unsurpassed in natural beauty and played an important role in the history of Magnesia and the Greek Nation in general.Worthy of mention are the legendary Makedonomachos Konstantinos Garefis, who came from Milies and the martyr Saint Stamatios from Saint Georgios of Nilia.
The famous "School of Milies", founded by Gazes, Constantas and Filippides, was a valuable spiritual place of that era and the center of the liberation war of 1821. Here were born Anthimos Gazes, Gregory Constantas, Daniel Filippides and other teachers of the Nation.

In the Folklore Museum, you will see the flag of the Revolution, raised on May 7, 1821 by Anthimos Gazes that marked the rising of the people of Pelion against the Turkish yoke. You will also admire works of the famous painter, Theophilos.
