Zakynthos: Easter at “Fiore of Levante”!

Dressed in festive costume, decorated with wildflowers that flood the plains and extend to its vast sandy beaches, Zakynthos celebrates Easter in a unique way. Live it!

Festive atmosphere, the air full of smells of freshly baked bagels and buns, the Philharmonic to fill the neighborhoods with hymns of Holy Week and the coastal Strata Marina.
Spring does its best to dress this blessed island with colors and smells. For this beauty, it was named "Fiore of Levante" (Flower of the East). It is a place full of contradictions and reversals, with long sandy beaches and turquoise waters, and steep, vertical cliffs mixed with the deep blue waters of the Ionian Sea, Zakynthos is the homeland of the major Greek poets, Andreas Kalvos and Dionysios Solomos and of the play writer Gregory Xenopoulos. The influences of the Venetians came together, over the time, with the Greek tradition and created a distinct culture. During the 15th century, the theater and the music were particularly developed.
The people of this place have songs and arts in their blood...
Traditions and Customs

Knowing the island...
The first image we see when the boat reaches the spacious harbor is the imposing church of Agios Dionysios, the island's patron. A city alive, vibrant, with a modern face, but also with firmly rooted tradition.
The largest traffic is observed in the Saint Marcos square, with its cafes to spread their tables outside when the weather is good. Here, the young people are gathering in the afternoon and the evening. It is worth visiting the Museum of Eminent Zakynthians, which houses rare and personal belongings of the greatest poets of the place.
The church of St Nicholas that was built by sailors on an island and, in latter time, it was joined to mainland, it dominates in the square of Solomos. Nearby is the interesting Byzantine Museum. The most walked street is, of course, Strata Marina.
Among the very beautiful areas of the island, near the town, is the famous Bochali, flooded in green and beautiful mansions, from where you will enjoy the wonderful views towards the city and the harbor. A little higher is the proud castle of Zakynthos. From its ramparts, the view is amazing.

Worth seeing:

• The famous Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach.
• The villages of Ano and Kato Volimes, where are preserved some of the oldest houses of the island and the ruins of a Venetian castle.
• The mountain village “Maries” and the Monastery of Anafonitria, where, as it is said, the monk Saint Dionysios lived.
• Keri Bay, Alikanas and Alykes.
• Katastari village, built on the slopes of Vrachionas Mount, overlooking the bay of Alykes.
• The Xygkias Cave and the quiet beaches at Katastari Bay.
• By boat, from the bay of St. Nicholas, you will discover the Blue Caves.
• Visit the Stone Park “Askos”, a natural park of flora and fauna, in a wooded park of 500 acres
