Spirer building in Volos
The special architectural and aesthetic Spirer building, at the junction of Makrinitsa and Asia Minor streets, was built in 1926 and designed by the architect I. Vilanits to house the tobacco warehouse of Herman Spirer Co.
After the Second World War, it housed successively several tobacco merchant houses, the Organization for Tobacco, some crafts and the offices of the local bus KTEL.
In 1984, the building was declared as preserved by the Ministry of Culture and in 1988 it was acquired by the Municipality of Volos.
Since 1995, the two wards house the activities of municipal enterprises and organizations, while in the central ward cultural events take place, meetings and exhibitions.
In Spirer building is housed the Municipal History Center. It has an organized library. Also, it has an organized archive of newspapers.
It operates in flexible hours (8.00-19.00) and during the period of holidays it remains closed in the afternoon.
In the basement is the archive of the Municipal Center of History.
In the attic of the central ward are housed the offices of the Technical Department.
On the mezzanine floor of the left ward, the American University Drury is housed.
