Kissos of Pelion, unique and picturesque
A village with the highest altitude of the villages of East Pelion, unique and picturesque, immersed into the greenery of a beautiful landscape, "hidden" from the eyes of the uninitiated people.
According to the historian C. Kordatos, the name of the village comes from the paraphrase of the word “Chrysos”.
Proof of the old economic boom of the village and famous landmark, is the three-aisled basilica of Agia Marina, in the equally charming village square. It is considered as one of the best and most representatives of its kind sacred monuments of Pelion.
Radically renovated, this famous church was decorated in the second half of the 18th century and has the best wooden temple in Pelion. Also, it was decorated with hagiographic and mores representations and cool landscapes and paintings by the painter G. Pagonis. The church of Agia Marina houses, in one of its chapels, the Ecclesiastical Museum of the village, where one can see mainly old images and church archival documents.
Interesting are also the religious monuments of St. Efstathios, which is in a higher position than the village, and the temple of the old church of St. Constantine, in Mavroutsa district.
The visitor of Kissos is not only enhanced by its beauty but also by the excellent service of the tourist facilities in the village.
