Corfu. Easter here has its own color!

The green "island of Feakes", Corfu, with its indented coastline and the atmospheric Old Town, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage monument, knows to respect the secrets for centuries and the poetry of a life that resists to the ephemeral influences of the time...
Easter is celebrated here in a unique way by breaking Botides, with philharmonics in the alleyways and traditional flavors...

Starting a journey in search of the special charm of Corfu, we will discover a unique island with a distinct culture, a high level of culture, beautiful customs and unique traditional flavors. Its geographical position - as it is the northernmost island in Ionian Sea and is considered as the crossroad of East and West – make it the target of many conquerors over the centuries. In the past, as a part of the Byzantine Empire, Corfu was occupied by the Venetians, Frenchmen, Russians and Englishmen. The influences that has accepted, contributed to the formation of a distinct cultural identity.
The influence of West is present in both the architecture of the facades and in the interior decoration of public buildings, of aristocratic homes, and in the ordinary urban houses.

The Old Town, surrounded by walls and fortresses, with Venetian multistory homes, which are separated to each other by the atmospheric narrow alleys, with coats of arms, lanterns and escutcheons, make it a worth visiting place at different times of the day.
Here is Kampielo, the old Jewish neighborhood. The Old City is the largest "live" preserved medieval city in Greece and its disparate architectural elements, tied together seamlessly, express the influences of different cultures.

The new part of Corfu is not separated from the Old Town. Thus, next to alleyways, there are wide streets with large squares. Among them Spianada – considered the most beautiful in Greece!

Corfu is belted by the Old or Sea Fort, separated from the city by a moat, the Contra Fosa, above of it there was a movable wooden bridge. The New or Stergiano Fortress, near the old port, was built among 1576 - 1588 to protect the city from a possible Turkish invasion.
In this enchanting city, the customs of Easter have their own color, aroma and taste. If one experiences it once, he comes back again and again...
