Bourgi, the sleepless guard of Nauplio
It is a small fortress, at the entrance of the port, just 450 meters from Nauplio city. It was linked with a chain with Akronauplia, during Enetian times, and was closing the entrance of the port at the unwanted ships.
Firstly it was called as Agioi Theodoroi island, from the homonym church. Later it was named by the Europeans as Passage and today is called Bourgi.
It was fortified at 1471 from the Enetian and formed a strategic spot. Later on the Turks added an extra tower in the quad of the Enetian, completing the fortification.
