Ambelakiotisa (former Kozitsa) is located between two hills on the top of Agios Ilias (1.450 m.), exactly across of Tsekoura (1732 m.) from which separated from Mairema.

It became residential area from ancient times. At "Plagia" and "Kastri", ancient tombs have been found...

It seems that the ancient village was at Kastri, south side of the village above Kotsalos bridge, where we can find besides the ancient foundings also the ruins of four temples ( Agios Vasilios, Agios Panteleimon, Agios Ioannis and Agia Triada at Skompodo)

It is still unknown why it was trasfered at Palaiochori on the left side of Mairema (Kozitsianos), at the north east from the todays village
where we find the ruined temples of Agia Paraskeuh, Agios Athanasios, Profitis Ilias, Agios Nikolaos.

At 1927 Kozitsa is considered as a foreign word  that replaced to Kastri to be Ambelakiotisa at 1928 from Panagia. It is a village that is surrounded with virgin nature and multiple colors in its surroundings that broaden our emotions. At the south side we meet the beautiful river Kotsalos with its well known bridge. There are two important christian temples in the village.


The monastery of Panagia Ambelakiotisa directed to men with history of many centuries that was built around 1456 a.d is considered to be the "Kivotos of Naupaktia" as it keeps  priceworthy remainings as the picture of Panagia, right hand of Agios Polukarpos, the epitaph of Mariora (1735), the significant scrupture made of wood temple (1871 – 1874), silver bonecase (1470) etc.
The second one is the temple of Agios Nikolaos. Rebuilt in 1744. At 1880 the temple was broaden to the west side and a "gunaikonitis" was added. The temple made of wood of amazing technique that was made at 1748  from the local technician Athanasios ( Damiano) with pictures of the same era. The top of it is also magnificent.

Also interesting is the temple of Agia Varvara (rebuilt at 1980), that from the sign it seems to be an episcopic temple, from priest Iakovos .
