The western side of the island of Paxos is steep, with sheer cliffs and numerous sea caves, which have a special reputation for their natural beauty.
In this isolated part of the island you will find impressive rock formations, sea caves, deserted beaches and histories about Poseidon, Amphitriti, pirates and the Second World War at the Papanikoli cave.

You can reach this part of the island by excursion boats that usually make daily cruises from a port of the island or even (if you are not at Paxos) from Parga, Sivota and Corfu.
Some of the major attractions - sites of the western side of Paxos are:


Ypapanti
The major is the cave of Ypapanti for which it is stated that, during the second World War, it was hiding inside it the “Papanikolis” submarine, a fact that characterizes its size.
It is said that the great cave beneath the settlement of Vasilatika is connected with the church of Ypapanti.


Blue Cave (Galazio Spileo)
These are three exceptional caves which are communicating each other. They owe their name to the variety of shades of blue and to the clear waters.
In the first cave, which is the largest, a small boat has the ability to get inside, as you can see in the photos of the photo album. Attention is needed to the second cave as the roof has fallen because of erosion.


Ortholithos
The name identifies its identity, a standing rock in the sea. The impressive vertical rock is "pinned" into the crystal clear waters, giving a great beauty in the landscape, supplemented by the large cave on the opposite shore. And this cave also is very large, impressive with beautiful waters.


Trypitos
Impressive natural rock formation, looks like an arch or a vault or a natural bridge, located on the western coast of Paxos.

Access
You can access Paxos by car through Igoumenitsa.

The best way to explore the area is to have your own car and is worth visiting places that are not accesible by the local public transport and tours.
The distances on the island are short and can be covered by public means of transport.

Daily ferry routes are scheduled from and towards Igoumenitsa to Paxos (Gaios) and Corfu via Igoumenitsa.
