Among Serifos, Kimolos and Antiparos, Sifnos "travels" in the Aegean Sea. It is said that god Apollo fell in love with the island and gave to it generously his sparkle and light. In the later years, remarkable architects embellished it with unique villages.
The terrain of the landscape and the built environment of the high aesthetics make it to stand out from the other islands of the western Cyclades. This island is famous for its traditional ceramics and the excellent cuisine. Perhaps it is no coincidence that the famous to us all “Tselementes” originates from Sifnos.

A stroll in its beauty...

The boat enters Kamares, the picturesque harbor with all sorts of tourist shops, with particular emphasis on ceramics, the traditional product of the island, and many taverns and ouzo bars. Around us are the huge bare mountains. At their top, there are whitewashed churches, Saint Simeon on one and Ai-Lias on the other.
The first image is not particularly exciting. The “different” that we are looking for is in the island, 6 km from from Kamares. We leave behind the port heading towards Apollonia, the capital of the island. From up here you actually can see a unique sight: a plateau with olive trees and flowering shrubs in all the earthy tones and among them the whitewashed villages, bonded in "love" to each other. Apollonia, in the heart of the island, impresses with its traditional architecture. It took its name from god Apollo, who was worshiped here. Full of vitality, as it is filled with shops, restaurants and bakeries that serve the famous local sweets. Here is the interesting Folk Museum, which is worth visiting. Two kilometers north of Apollonia is Artemonas, a village with whitewashed houses and preserved mansions. It is worth walking on its streets and definitely to visit a pottery workshop to admire the famous jars, the Tsikali, Flaros, pitchers and Lainia, made with love and respect to the tradition of Sifnos.

Access
The distances are small and covered by the local buses and taxis so it is not necessary to have a car. If you want to move around independently you can rent a car or a motorbike in Sifnos.

There is regular transportation by bus for the most areas and beaches of the island.

During the summer Sifnos has a coastal link by ferry to Piraeus and Milos. Trip duration is 5 hours.
Also with Paros, Naxos, Mykonos, Tinos, Syros, Folegandros, Sifnos, Santorini etc., Crete (directly or through Milos).
Daily coastal link by flying dolphin or catamaran to Piraeus, trip duration is 3 hours.
There are also daily excursions by boat or small ships towards the beaches of Sifnos and the neighboring islands are organized.

The nearest airports are in Milos and Paros. For emergencies there is a heliport near the Monastery of Panagia Vrisiani, on the south of Exabeli.
